Responding to the Government’s announcement on £750m support fund for small charities at the daily press briefing on Covid-19

Responding to the Government’s announcement on £750m support fund for small charities at the daily press briefing on Covid-19 last night (8 April), the City of London Corporation’s Policy Chair Catherine McGuinness said:

“We are living through unprecedented, difficult times and this means the work being done by London’s charities to help some of the most vulnerable people is more important now than ever before. The Government’s announcement on emergency funding for these small charities is most welcome and will make a difference.

“Last week the City Corporation’s charitable arm, City Bridge Trust announced new emergency funding for 170 small charities in London to support them through Covid-19. The grants of up to £15,000 will go towards supporting the charities with running costs and to help organisations in replacing loss of income, supporting them now and in the months ahead before society begins to return to normality.

“Last month, City Bridge Trust also pledged £1 million to a new emergency support fund to help London’s community and voluntary organisations affected by the impact of the Covid-19.

“The emergency funding from City Bridge Trust and from the Government will help them to continue playing a vital role in mobilising people and resources to help protect people across the capital, and the wider UK.”
