Mark Boleat, Policy Chairman at the City of London Corporation, comments in response to the publication of the Capital Markets Union Green Paper today.

Policy Chairman Mark Boleat said:

“We welcome the publication of the Green Paper today, which underlines the need for stronger capital markets across Europe. This is a first step in, what we hope will be, an ambitious and long-term project to make sure that our economy, and in particular SMEs and infrastructure, are less reliant on bank lending. This focus on jobs and growth across Europe is something we all agree on and want to see.

“However, no single measure can deliver a Capital Markets Union, therefore it is imperative that all the measures proposed fit together coherently. Only then will European capital markets become more competitive on the global stage.”
