Following months of virtual and in-person classes during the COVID pandemic, students at City Academy Hackney have been celebrating their GCSE results today.

The students achieved a 71% pass rate at grades 4 and above for English and Maths and 48% at grades 5 and above for English and Maths.

Some of the top performing students include:

David Williams - nine Grade 9s and a grade 7

Umar Ali - seven grades 9s, a grade 8 and a grade 7

Abbie Meadowcroft - six grade 9s, three grade 8s and a grade 7s

Kunbi Sokunbi - three grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s

Principal of City Academy Hackney, Mark Malcolm, said:

"Students have achieved excellent GCSE results and have responded with great resolve to overcome the disrupted education of the past sixteen months.

“Never before has a cohort of KS4 students had so much of their learning time interrupted, and this makes their achievements all the more impressive."

“The students at City Academy Hackney should be delighted with their GCSE results today, not just because their hard work and determination has been reflected in their grades, but also for coping with the huge challenges presented by the COVID pandemic.
