Students celebrate “exceptional” A-Level results at City of London Academy Southwark

Students at City of London Academy Southwark are celebrating their A-level results today, achieving an 80% pass rate in grades A* to C.

The academy scored exceptional results in Maths, Economics, Spanish, Art and Sociology in particular, improving their overall A-Level results compared to 2019. At BTEC, many students achieved top D*D*D grades in Sports, Music and Health and Social Care.

Amongst the high performers were Kevin Matyszewski - A*A*BB who will be going to UCL to study Finnish and French. He said: "I'm very excited to get my first choice University. I have had a great time at CoLA since Year 7. I would particularly like to thank my French teachers, Mr Criswell, Ms Gray and Ms Koszuta for their support over the past two years"

Ria Osei-Annin - A*A*A who will be going to Loughborough University to study English. She said: "I'm delighted with my results. My 6th for experience at CoLA has been exceptional - the support from staff has been fantastic. I would like to thank Ms Boyle, the Assistant Principal for the 6th Form, because she has been so patient and supportive."

City of London Academy Southwark headteacher, Michael Baxter, said:

"Our Year 13 students have recorded exceptional grades, enabling them to progress onto university, apprenticeships, and the next stages of their lives.

“Nearly 50% of students will leave us today to attend one of the pretigious Russell Group Universities - almost double the number compared to 2021.

“These outcomes were achieved through hard work and dedication from both the pupils and their teachers. They have delt with the challenges of the pandemic and the ripple effects of it but have come out on top.

“We are hugely proud of their endeavours and welcome them all to the CoLAS alumni community.”

Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, Tijs Broeke, said:

“Congratulations to the students at City of London Academy Southwark.

“Today’s results are not only a reflection of their hard work but also a start of a new chapter in their lives.

“Whether they are now applying to university or seeking employment, we send to them our warmest congratulations, and our immense gratitude to the academy’s teaching staff.”
