Students at City of London Academy Southwark celebrate GCSE results

 

Students at the City of London Academy (CoLA) Southwark were jumping for joy as they received their GCSE results today.

Overall, 78% of pupils received grade 4 and above in English and Maths, with 57% receiving a grade 5 or better in the same subjects.

These results are the better than any that the academy achieved before the pandemic and are 21% better than in 2019. 

Many students performed exceptionally well, with some of the highest performers being:

Tyrese Marfo Senyah – nine grade 9s

Ahmed Okesola – six grade 9s, one 8, Double distinction star
Amen Gbenedio – six grade 9s, three 8s 
Esiroh Labefo-Audu – five grade 9s, three 8s, and one 7
Naima Ofogba – three grade 9s, six 8s
Leanne Ray Sison – four grade 9s, four 8s and one 7

The Lynton Road school promotes a culture of academic excellence.

CoLA is also one of only 10 schools in England to be awarded Basketball Academy status by Basketball England - with the girls U18 and U19 teams both claiming National Titles this year. 

COLA is a member of the City of London Academies Trust, which runs the City of London Corporation’s sponsored academies.

The City of London Corporation sponsors 10 Academies across Hackney, Newham, Islington, and Southwark.

Michael Baxter, headteacher at City of London Academy Southwark, said:
