Open Air Theatre returns to Epping Forest

Open air theatre is returning to Epping Forest again this August.

“The Tempest” and “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” are being performed by Illyria, the travelling theatre company, against the backdrop of The Temple in Wanstead Park.

Wanstead Park, which is part of Epping Forest, is owned and managed by the City of London Corporation.

Graeme Doshi-Smith, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Epping Forest and Commons Committee, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Illyria back to Wanstead Park.

“Their performances are always joyful and entertaining and their return signals summer is really underway at the site.

“I hope after seeing the plays, people will inspired to visit this wonderful park and the magnificent ancient woodland of Epping Forest.”

For further details and tickets please visit the Eventbrite website.

Epping Forest is London and Essex’s largest open space, attracting nearly five million visits a year.

The City Corporation protects and conserves 18 important green spaces in London and south east England – including Hampstead Heath and Burnham Beeches - and over 200 smaller ones in the Square Mile.

They include important wildlife habitats, sites of scientific interest and national nature reserves. They are protected from being built on by special legislation.

The City Corporation funds green spaces across London. Its sites, most of which are charitable trusts, are run at little or no cost to the communities that they serve. They are funded by over £29million a year from the City Corporation, together with donations, sponsorship, grants and income generated on site.
