Lord Mayor leads UK delegation to Canada and USA

The Lord Mayor of London, Peter Estlin, will lead a delegation of innovative UK fintech companies this week (24th June – 28th June) in a visit to Toronto, Chicago and Atlanta.

In a busy programme of engagement, he will have meetings with the Bank of Montreal, HSBC, Aon, Invesco and several others.

The overall focus of the visit will be on innovation, and how the mutual demand for expertise can increase collaboration in areas such as pensions, insurance and payments.

As home to 11 per cent of the global fintech industry and to more than 60 fintech start-ups valued at more than $1 billion (known as unicorns), the UK is a leader in innovation across the financial services sector.

The US is the UK’s largest trading partner and the UK exported £14 billion in financial services to the United States in 2017, while UK-Canada trade rose 13.7% to £6.5 billion last year.

Peter Estlin, Lord Mayor of London said:

“The US and Canada are two of the UK’s most significant trading partners, not least when it comes to financial services. The arrival of the fourth industrial revolution gives us an opportunity to deepen those relationships further for the future, and open a new chapter in our collaboration.

With that in mind, I’m excited to be accompanying such a diverse delegation of UK start-ups with me to North America for this visit. I look forward to discussing how we can share their expertise and build new business ties, benefitting consumers and households on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The Lord Mayor will be tweeting from @citylordmayor during his visit.
