The Government’s plan to ban new cars and vans powered wholly by petrol and diesel from 2030 is welcome news.

Cutting vehicle emissions is vital to solving the UK’s air pollution crisis.

Here in the City of London we are taking radical action, piloting the UK’s first 24/7 zero emission street, banning new diesel vehicles from our own fleet and leading a London-wide crackdown on idling engines.

But more needs to be done to tackle non-traffic sources of air pollution.

That’s why we’ve introduced an Emissions Reduction Bill to give London’s local authorities tough new powers to tackle pollution caused by boilers, construction machinery and diesel generators.

And our new Climate Action Strategy will make the whole Square Mile net zero carbon-emission, 10 years earlier than government goals.

Nobody should have to breathe dirty air and we will continue to work tirelessly to eliminate it.
