Letter to the Guardian : re outdoor air pollution reducing life expectancy by an average of three years

Dear Editor,

It is not surprising that air pollution is cutting life expectancy by an average of three years.

That’s why we are taking bold actions to improve London’s air quality.

We are launching the UK’s first 24/7 zero emission street and plan to turn other parts of the City into zero-emissions zones.

We have banned new diesel vehicles from our own fleet and are leading a London-wide crackdown on idling engines.

Our CityAir app gives over 30,000 Londoners low pollution travel routes, advice and alerts.

And London’s local authorities could get tough new powers to tackle air pollution caused by boilers, construction machinery and diesel generators through our Emissions Reduction Bill.

Nobody should have to breathe dirty air and we will continue to work tirelessly to eliminate it.
