Letter to the Evening Standard on affordable housing

Local authorities must work together to combat housing threat

Dear editor

The London Councils’ poll confirming that a ‘third of people want to leave London’, is worrying news and confirms that unless the capital’s housing shortage is seriously addressed, we are likely to lose a generation of skilled workers. The capital’s competiveness is hinged on its ability to access a workforce with a broad range of skills- that is what makes our economy a global success and a hub for innovation. We have announced our plans to build 3,700 homes across London over the next decade, and we intend to work closely with other local authorities to achieve this. With resources and budgets stretched, London’s councils need to establish ever closer partnerships to combat this common threat.
