Residents and organisations in the City of London are being asked to give their views on what volunteering means to them.

The City of London Corporation is carrying out a survey aimed at understanding the volunteering needs of residents and how Square Mile organisations can best involve them.

It has commissioned volunteering charity Tempo Time Credits to carry out the research, which can be completed online or by attending drop-in sessions.

The results of the survey will shape how the Square Mile’s governing body supports residents to volunteer and community groups to engage volunteers.

A City of London Corporation spokesperson said:

“During the pandemic, many Londoners gave their time to support their neighbours when they needed it most, and issues such as the cost-of-living crisis mean volunteering has never been more important.

“We’re encouraging people to give us their views online, or come along to one of the drop-in sessions to shape how we can best match potential volunteers with organisations which need their help.”

The survey aims to understand why people volunteer, what barriers might prevent them from volunteering, and what more can be done to identify and promote volunteering opportunities.

Individuals and community organisations can complete the surveys online by Friday 24 March at www.wearetempo.org/city-of-london-resident-volunteery-survey/

Paper versions of the surveys will be available at estate offices and community centres in the City or can be sent upon request by emailing corporatevolunteeringmanager@cityoflondon.gov.uk

People can also give their views at drop-in sessions being held at Portsoken Community Centre, in Little Somerset Street, on Wednesday, 22 March from 6.30 to 8pm and at the Sir Ralph Perring Centre, on the Golden Lane Estate, on Friday 24 March at the same times.
