Guildhall lights up to mark Ukraine’s independence day

The City of London Corporation’s headquarters were lit up last night to mark Ukraine’s independence day.

The exterior of the Guildhall was lit blue and yellow to commemorate the event, which marks the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence following the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991.

It also demonstrated the City’s support for Ukraine, which has been fighting a large-scale Russian invasion of its territory since February.

City of London Corporation Policy Chairman Chris Hayward said:

“Lighting up Guildhall is a way we can visibly show our support for Ukraine and its people as they continue their brave struggle against Russian aggression.

“It’s also a way of showing solidarity with Ukrainians who have been forced to flee their country, including those who have found a home here in London.”

Earlier this year, the City Corporation donated £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal and to UNICEF for its humanitarian work in the country.
