Grant to boost London Chinese Dementia & Alzheimer’s Project at Westminster’s healthy living centre

The City of London Corporation’s charitable funder, City Bridge Trust, has awarded a grant of £80,000 to the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre, based in Westminster, to provide more help for people with dementia.

The grant will be used towards the cost of a full-time Co-ordinator plus the running costs of its London Chinese Dementia & Alzheimer’s Project.

The project provides a range of services to support those in the Westminster Chinese community with dementia and their families and carers. It aims to increase awareness and knowledge of the condition, reduce stigma and provide practical support.

The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre is based in a local health centre in the heart of the Chinese community in Soho. It was established in 1987 to promote healthy living and reduce health inequalities and currently acts as a bridge between the Chinese community and mainstream services.

David Farnsworth, Director of the City Bridge Trust said:

“We are thrilled to have been able to help the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre with the London Chinese Dementia & Alzheimer’s Project. The City Bridge Trust is London’s biggest independent grant giver, making grants of £20 million a year to tackle disadvantage across the capital. It helps achieve the Corporation’s aim of changing the lives of hundreds of thousands of Londoners.”

Eddie Chan, Director at the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre, added:

We are so pleased to receive an extension funding for our dementia awareness and support project from City Bridge Trust. This will enable us to apply our unique capacity to continue supporting the London Chinese community with members of their families living with dementia. We will also make good use of this extended time to create sustainability to this programme for the future.”

Between September 1995 and March 2016 City Bridge Trust awarded 303 grants for a total amount of £16,997,140 to organisations based in Westminster.

City Bridge Trust has awarded over 7,300 grants totalling more than £344 million to organisations across the capital between since 1995.

The City of London Corporation’s charity is committed to supporting Londoners to make the city a better place to work and live.
