Epping Forest Easter Fun

The City of London Corporation is running a series of family Easter events at Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge and The View, Rangers Road, Chingford on Wednesday 8 April, from 1-3pm. No booking is required - just drop in. £1 per person. Under 3s free.

A Family Learning Event on ‘Feasts and Fairs’ will be looking at how people spent their Easter holidays in Epping Forest in Tudor and Victorian times. There will be a display, a quiz, and making activities, with colouring-in pictures for young visitors. Children can try their luck tilting at a quintain and participants can make their own paper helter skelters to roll marbles down. Victorian daytrippers enjoyed helter skelters at Grays Retreat in Theydon Bois and probably also at the temporary fairgrounds that came to the Forest.

There will also be a group of dancers from the Rose Theatre on Bankside. This Elizabethan theatre was built in 1587 and is now an archaeological site, where plays are still performed. They will be performing authentic dances from the late 16th century.
