City residents and workers urged: protect your family and get your COVID jabs now

City residents and workers are being urged to get their COVID-19 jabs following the Prime Minister’s urgent national appeal.

Boris Johnson announced on Sunday that in light of the ‘Omicron emergency’ the booster target was being bought forward by a month.

All adults will now be offered a booster jab by the New Year, providing they have had a second dose of the vaccine at least three months ago.

The appeal comes as the UK Chief Medical Officers increased the UK Covid Alert Level from Level 3 to Level 4 due to a rapid increase in cases of the Omicron variant.

People can get their first, second and booster jabs for free at the City’s dedicated vaccination centre at Boots pharmacy at 120 Fleet Street.

The site has already vaccinated 12,000 City residents and workers against COVID-19 since it began offering the jab in April.

Anyone can book an appointment at the Boots pharmacy by visiting nhs.uk/wintervaccinations or ringing 119.

City of London Corporation Policy Chair, Catherine McGuinness, said:

“London is facing a challenging moment in the fight against the Omicron variant so it’s absolutely vital that all eligible adults get their booster jabs this month.

“Getting your COVID vaccine is the best way to protect your friends and family. It significantly reduces our chances of getting seriously ill from the virus and being hospitalised. It will also make it safer for us to get about our daily lives.

“The first and second doses still offer you protection, so if you haven’t yet had a vaccine at all, then please get a jab as quickly as possible.”

The vaccines have been through rigorous clinical trials, tested on hundreds of thousands of people in the UK and worldwide, and have been approved by the British Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
