The City of London Corporation’s Guildhall headquarters will be illuminated purple in support of ‘Purple Tuesday.’

Purple Tuesday is an international initiative, that encourages and helps businesses to improve inclusion and accessibility for disabled customers, to provide them with the best experience possible. It culminates in an event in November every year, where organisations showcase their support for inclusivity.

On Tuesday 12^th November, City Corporation Officers in partnership with the staff-led, Disability, Ability and Wellbeing Network (DAWN), hosted an inclusion webinar and panel discussion, inviting teams across the organisation to share best practice and the work they are doing to improve accessibility across the Square Mile. Following this, attendees gathered in the Guildhall Courtyard to illuminate the building and celebrate the event.

The City Corporation has employer status for the Disability Confident scheme, which supports it to access talent, challenge attitudes towards disability, increase understanding, and remove barriers that prevent people from fulfilling their potential.

Chairman of the City of London Corporation Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Andrien Meyers, said:

We recognise the different needs of all those who live, work, learn or visit the City and are actively working to increase accessibility and inclusivity. 

“Illuminating Guildhall is a visible way to show we are inclusive, but we are also actively taking an increased focus on how we work across the organisation, by providing services and spaces, for a wide range of communities across the Square Mile and beyond, that produces this end result.”
