City of London pays tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh

Responding to the news that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has died:

Lord Mayor of the City of London, William Russell, said:

“This is a terribly sad moment for the nation. Our thoughts are with HM The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh’s family and friends at this time.

“His Royal Highness served the country and supported the City of London faithfully during the course of his long and distinguished life.

“As we stop to mourn, the City joins together in sending our sincerest condolences.”

“We in the City send our deepest sympathies to HM The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh’s family and friends.

“Although it is a sad day, we should also pay tribute to His Royal Highness’s many achievements and dedicated public service – not least his longstanding charitable work.”
