City of London Lord Mayor records Lunar New Year message

The City of London Lord Mayor Charles Bowman has produced a special message for those celebrating Lunar New Year this coming Friday (16 February).

In a video recorded at the Mansion House, the Lord Mayor wishes everyone in Britain, China and around the world a very happy and prosperous new year.

The Lord Mayor also talks about his upcoming trip to China in March, where he will lead a business delegation to promote London’s continued role as a leading financial centre, and the City’s position as the natural western hub of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Reflecting on the symbolism of the Year of the Dog, the Lord Mayor discusses the importance of trust in business, a message which he has made a central priority for his mayoral year.

Lord Mayor Bowman, the 690th incumbent of a role that dates back centuries, is the leader of London’s ‘Square Mile,’ or financial district, and has plans to visit 27 countries over the course of his year in office. Charles Bowman is an accountant by profession, and is a Senior Partner at PwC in London.

Talking in the video, the Lord Mayor Charles Bowman said:

“As Lord Mayor of the City of London - and the principle ambassador of the UK’s financial and professional services sector at home and abroad - I would like to wish everyone around the world a very happy, and prosperous, new year.

“The year of the dog is special because it symbolises loyalty, honesty and above all trust- three things that I want to see more of in the industry I represent.

“In March I’ll be coming to China with a business delegation, when I’ll be saying just this, along with the message that London is open for business, and keen to be involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. “

Full details about the Lord Mayor’s trip to China, which follows that of Prime Minister Theresa May, will be released in due course.
