City of London Corporation to host Net Zero Delivery Summit in 2024

The City of London Corporation has today (4 December) announced that it will host the Net Zero Delivery Summit at the Mansion House in London next year and live streamed to a global online audience.

This Summit is set to take place in June 2024 to mark the halfway point between COP28 in the United Arab Emirates and COP29. It will focus on unlocking private sector finance for climate mitigation and adaptation around the world; nature finance; ESG disclosures that support capital flows and promote transparency; and the scaling of a credible voluntary carbon market.

The event will build on the summit hosted by the City Corporation earlier this year in partnership with the Egyptian COP27 presidency, which featured speakers including Bank of England Governor, Andrew Bailey, and the Prime Minister of Barbados,   Mia Mottley. It will bring together leaders of finance, business, government, and other institutions from around the world.

The Summit was announced today by the City Corporation’s Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward and the Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli at COP28.

Lord Mayor of London, Professor Michael Mainelli said:

“In a year where we’ve seen an increase in wildfires, devastating flooding and strong winds, mobilising private finance to help fund a global just transition to net zero is crucial to saving lives. Here in the Gulf, increasing temperatures threaten to render large parts of the region uninhabitable by 2100. And the same is true for many other places around the world.

“That’s why I’m pleased to be announcing the Net Zero Delivery Summit at COP28 where we’ll focus on turning the commitments made by the financial sector at previous COPs into concrete action ahead of COP29.”

Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation, Chris Hayward said:

“There is no pathway towards net zero without private capital. To reach our climate goals, we must ensure an enabling environment which both nurtures innovation and encourages creativity in the development of sustainable finance products. This will help us scale critical areas of sustainable finance, including transition and nature finance, and the voluntary carbon market.

“As a global leader in sustainable finance, London is well placed to drive growth and innovation in sustainable finance. The Net Zero Delivery Summit will showcase the very best examples of what is working, on the ground, from around the world, to deliver net zero.”
