City of London Corporation builds 10 new affordable homes in the centre of London

Ten new flats have been delivered in the Square Mile to provide much needed affordable housing.

The one-bedroom flats on the Middlesex Street Estate are part of the City of London Corporation’s vision to deliver an ambitious programme of housing development over the coming years. The City Corporation plans to deliver 3,700 new homes on sites across the capital.

Of these, it is proposed that 700 will be built on existing City Corporation housing estates, representing a 25 per cent increase.

The remaining 3,000 will be delivered on underused land within the City Corporation’s portfolio.

Randall Anderson, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Community and Children’s Services Committee, said:

The housing shortage in London is one of the most pressing economic and social issues that the capital faces. These new flats will provide Londoners with affordable homes in the heart of the City.

“The City Corporation wants to ensure the Square Mile and the wider capital have the infrastructure, including housing, needed to continue to thrive.”

The flats have been designed to provide accessible and flexible living.

The City of London Corporations appointed Contractors, Vinci Facilities Ltd, delivered the flats on time and to budget.

The City Corporation is a social landlord with twelve housing estates across the City of London and six London boroughs.
