City of London Academy Shoreditch Park: students celebrate “exceptional” first GCSE results

Students at City of London Academy Shoreditch Park are celebrating their first set of GCSE results today.

Some of the highest performing students include:

Tristan Bailey: nine x grade 9s

Lola Thompson: nine x grade 9s

Tomiwa Onigbanjo: seven x grade 9s, three x grade 8s

Phoebe Gaynor: eight x grade 9s, two x grade 8s

City of London Academy Shoreditch Park is a member of the City of London Academies Trust, which runs the City of London Corporation’s sponsored academies. The City Corporation sponsors 10 Academies across Hackney, Newham, Islington, and Southwark.

City of London Academy Shoreditch Park headteacher, Holly Arles, said:

"This year is a very special year as we celebrate our first ever GCSE results, and we could not be happier.

“Our Year 11 students have recorded exceptional grades, enabling them to progress onto the next stages of their lives.

“These outcomes were achieved through hard work and dedication from both the students and their teachers.

“They have dealt admirably with the challenges of the pandemic and the ripple effects of it.

“These are absolutely exceptional results by any standard and we are hugely proud of our students’ endeavours.”

Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, Tijs Broeke, said:

“Congratulations to the students and staff at City of London Academy Shoreditch Park .

“Today’s results are an important milestone in the school’s history.

“Whether they are now applying to further education or seeking employment, we send to them our warmest congratulations, and our immense gratitude to the academy’s teaching staff.”

City of London Academy Shoreditch Park celebrated the official opening of a new permanent school building in November last year.

The new site on Hyde Road features a sixth form centre, state-of-the-art science laboratories, music and theatre facilities, and a sports pitch on its roof.

The City Corporation has been named twice by social mobility charity, Sutton Trust, as the UK’s best academy sponsor for empowering pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to perform above the national average, and the leading academy sponsor for Progress 8 and Attainment 8, which track pupil progress and achievement.
