City of London Academy Islington celebrates “exceptional” GCSE results

Hard work and dedication have paid off for students at City of London Academy Islington (CoLAI) as they celebrate excellent GCSE results today.

72% of the Year 11 students at the Prebend Street school achieved English and Mathematics GCSEs at grades 4 and above, and 53% achieved grades 5 and above.

Amongst the high achievers are:

  • Fahmidha Ali who achieved 7 grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7.
  • Lorin Macit also achieved impressive results, with 6 grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 6.
  • Fogo Balogan was delighted to achieve six grade 9s and two grade 7s.

CoLAI is a member of the City of London Academies Trust, which runs the City of London Corporation’s sponsored academies. The City Corporation sponsors 10 Academies across Hackney, Newham, Islington, and Southwark.

Headteacher of City of London Academy Islington, Sonia Jacob, said:

“I am absolutely delighted for our Year 11 students who have all achieved exceptional examination success today.

“Their high academic achievement is the result of hard work throughout the year, despite still battling with the challenges of the pandemic.

“Our results reflect our aspiration and determination for outstanding student success, which is shared by all at the Academy, and I am exceptionally proud of both students and staff.”

Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, Tijs Broeke, said:

“We are very proud of how hard our students have worked.

“And we are delighted that this hard work has translated into tangible results which will enable them to pursue the further education and employment training opportunities of their choice.”
