City of London Academy Highbury Grove celebrates exam success

Students at City of London Academy Highbury Grove have been celebrating their GCSE results today.

Following last week's excellent results at A Level, the significant improvements continue with 62% of students achieving a 4+ in English and mathematics and 41% achieving a 5+ in English and mathematics.

The recent improvements within the school, as recognised in the recent Ofsted inspection in April 2022, are realised in these results as the academy looks forward to a positive progress score.

Some of the highest achieving students include:

Taanniya achieved eight grade 9s and one grade 8

Naila achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s

Sami achieved seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7

Gifty achieved six grade 9s, three grade 8s

Daisy achieved four grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7

City of London Academy Highbury Grove is a member of the City of London Academies Trust, which runs the City of London Corporation’s sponsored academies. The City Corporation sponsors 10 Academies across Hackney, Newham, Islington, and Southwark.

Headteacher of City of London Academy Highbury Grove, Aimee Lyall, said:

“Over this last academic year, we have continued to feel the effects of the pandemic. But our students, teachers, and staff have demonstrated huge determination and have achieved excellent results.

“I am delighted with today’s results. The students’ efforts have paid off.

“I wish all our students the very best of luck in the next phase of their lives.”

Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, Tijs Broeke, said:

“Our students should be very proud of their considerable achievements.

“I hope that we have prepared them for bright and successful futures, and we wish them every success as they move on to the next phase in their lives.”

The City Corporation has been named twice by social mobility charity, Sutton Trust, as the UK’s best academy sponsor for empowering pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to perform above the national average, and the leading academy sponsor for Progress 8 and Attainment 8, which track pupil progress and achievement.
