City figure recognised in New Year’s Honours

Deputy John Bennett has received an MBE in the New Year’s Honours for services to the City of London and education.

John is currently Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors for the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

He stepped down in May after a three year term as Chairman of the Guildhall School, having served in a number of roles, including as Chairman of the City of London Freemen’s School from 2009 to 2013, and on the City Corporation’s Education Board.

As Chief Commoner from 2014 to 2015 at the City Corporation, John undertook a wide range of civic engagements to support the Lord Mayor and highlight the work of the City’s communities.

Deputy John Bennett said:

“It is a great privilege to receive this recognition for my contribution to the City of London and education.

“I would like to thank the elected members and City Corporation officers who have supported my efforts to ensure talented individuals receive the education they need to succeed, as well as those helping to promote the City’s role in supporting communities more widely.”
