City Corporation responds to the Chancellor’s 2021 Financial and Professional Services Address

Responding to the Chancellor’s Financial and Professional Services Address at The Mansion House today, Policy Chair at the City of London Corporation, Catherine McGuinness, said:

“The Chancellor’s financial and professional services roadmap will be welcomed by the sector.

“The ‘new chapter’ for the financial and professional services sector which he has launched today sets a clear direction for this vital part of the UK economy, and projects a confidence in our place on the world stage which we share.

“His announcement on the UK’s debut sovereign green bond and a world-first green savings bond are particularly welcome news.

“Climate change is a major global issue affecting everyone on the planet.

“Here in the City we are tackling it through our radical Climate Action Strategy which will make the Square Mile net zero carbon-emissions by 2040.

“The UK’s internationalist approach outlined by the Chancellor today is essential as we adapt to our new global position.

“We must do all we can to compete in the global marketplace and continue to show our openness to the world.

“We look forward to working with Government to seize these growth opportunities which will benefit businesses and households across the country.”
