City Corporation launches Aldgate crowdfunding initiative

A crowdfunding initiative for community groups and organisations in Aldgate has been launched by the City of London Corporation.

The ‘Our Aldgate’ crowdfunding platform aims to encourage community groups and organisations to come forward with ideas that will benefit people who live, work, learn, play or visit in the Aldgate area.

The City Corporation has teamed up with Spacehive, a crowdfunding platform that aims to make it as easy as possible for people to bring their community together by having access to funding.

Spacehive will be running workshops to help groups to develop their projects and to get started.

The City of London Corporation has a £30,000 fund and will make a maximum pledge of £5,000 to support crowdfunded projects in Aldgate.

The scheme is open to a variety of projects, from things that will enhance the physical appearance of the area, to arts, cultural, sporting or learning activities.

Randall Anderson, Chairman of Community and Children’s Services, said:

“We want to encourage people to run events that bring local people together, activities that support health, wellbeing and employability, and projects that celebrate the heritage and diversity of the area.

“From music festivals to art installations, if you have an idea to make Aldgate even better, this is your opportunity to make it happen. If your project fits our criteria, we may be able to help your crowdfunding campaign on its way.”

Chris Gourley, CEO of Spacehive said:

“Spacehive is very excited to kick off this initiative with the City Corporation. We are based locally, just off Brick Lane, and it is a great opportunity to work even more closely with our surrounding community. Aldgate has always been a place of creativity and innovation and we cannot wait to see what exciting projects come forward.”

Through the crowdfunding scheme the City Corporation will be able to empower projects, groups and individuals to create something for everyone in Aldgate.
