The City of London Corporation has today (Tuesday 7 April 2020) announced the appointment of His Honour Judge Mark Lucraft QC as the next Recorder of London.

Judge Lucraft, a Senior Circuit Judge at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) and the Chief Coroner of England and Wales, will take office on Tuesday 14 April 2020. He will succeed The Honourable Mr Justice Hilliard, who has served as Recorder of London since January 2015.

In addition to his duties as the senior judge of the Central Criminal Court, the Recorder of London is the Senior Law Officer of the City of London and officiates at key City elections. He also undertakes official duties on State occasions where the City acts as host.

Mark Lucraft, aged 58, was called to the Bar in 1984 and took Silk in 2006. He was appointed a Recorder in 2003; as a Circuit Judge in 2012; and as Chief Coroner of England and Wales in 2016. He was appointed a Senior Circuit Judge at the Central Criminal Court in 2017, sitting on criminal matters as well as undertaking his work as Chief Coroner.
