Caroline Haines re-elected as City Corporation’s Education Board Chair

Members of the City of London Corporation’s Education Board have re-elected Caroline Haines to chair the body.

The board oversees the City Corporation’s strategies for education, skills, and cultural and creative learning, and its programmes offering Londoners jobs, work experience, and apprenticeships.

It also supports the City Corporation’s Family of Schools. The City Corporation sponsors 10 high-performing academies across Hackney, Islington, Newham, and Southwark through the City of London Academies Trust.  It is also the local education authority for one maintained primary school in the City of London, and the proprietor of four independent schools. 

Ms Haines is an educator. After graduating from the University of Cambridge, she worked in several London and Essex schools, becoming head teacher of a sixth form centre.

Naresh Sonpar was elected Deputy Chair.

Chair of the Education Board, Caroline Haines, said:

"Being re-elected as the chair of this board is a great privilege and honour.

“The committee plays a leading role in the lives of young people who are our future.

“I am totally dedicated to ensuring that we continue to meet their expectations, providing them with the best opportunities as they go through their educational journeys.”
