Alderman Bronek Masojada has been elected to serve as the 698th Lord Mayor of the City of London. He will succeed Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley DBE, and take office at the Silent Ceremony at Guildhall on 13 November.

The annual Lord Mayor's Show will take place the following day and will be his first public engagement in office.

Bronek spent 28 years at insurance giant Hiscox, including 21 years as Group Chief Executive, helping transform it into a leading global specialist insurer.

He has held senior roles across the insurance market and is Chair of the East End Community Foundation, supporting work to improve life chances and employment prospects across East London.

During his mayoralty, Bronek will act as an international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector, championing its contribution to prosperity at home and abroad.

His programme will continue the work of successive Lord Mayors in connecting talent and capital with opportunity. It will explore how the UK can bring together investment, trusted institutions, talented people and international relationships to help businesses grow, support emerging industries and create opportunities across the country.

At a time of global uncertainty, the Mayoralty will also make the case for the UK's enduring strengths and its role as a trusted partner that connects markets, nations, and ideas.

Working with government, business, local leaders and international partners, Lord Mayor Elect Bronek Masojada will use the Mayoralty's relationships and convening power to build partnerships and turn ideas into action.

Bronek has served as Alderman for the Ward of Billingsgate since 2019 and was Sheriff of the City of London in 2023/24.

The City of London powers the UK economy, supporting 676,000 Square Mile workers and 24,000 businesses, generating £109 billion in output, and £1.3 billion in business rates, and a major share of the financial and professional services sector’s £110 billion annual tax revenue. The industry supports 2.5 million jobs – two thirds of them outside London.

About Lord Mayor Elect Bronek Masojada:

Bronek Masojada was elected Alderman for the Ward of Billingsgate in 2019 and served as Sheriff of the City of London in 2023/24. He is Chair of the East End Community Foundation, which supports communities across Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and the City of London.

A highly respected figure in the insurance and financial services sectors, Bronek is Chair of SiriusPoint and Saltus Ltd, a Non-Executive Director of Brown & Brown, and an adviser to several fintech businesses.

Bronek retired as Chief Executive of Hiscox Ltd in 2021, having led the company from 1993 and overseen its transformation into a global FTSE-listed insurer. Before joining Hiscox, he worked at McKinsey & Company.

Our staff are highly trained and work in partnership with the City of London Police and Metropolitan Police Service. We also liaise with other emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. - 24/7 security on site, with continuous internal and external patrols and monitored CCTV.

We operate a bag search policy. All bags belonging to visitors are subject to search by our trained staff. These checks are usually quick, and we appreciate your patience. To help, please bring minimal possessions when you visit.

Our cloakrooms in the Art Gallery, or if attending an event in the Guildhall, are available but have limited space. Please avoid bringing large bags, luggage, or long umbrellas, as these cannot be taken into our venues. Prams, pushchairs and buggies are welcome.

If you have large bags or suitcases, you will need to leave them in the cloakroom. Please allow additional time for security checks if you bring a bag. Remember to keep an eye on your belongings and do not leave any bags unattended.

Stay alert. Please keep your belongings with you at all times. You can help us by informing any of our staff if you see or hear anything unusual. By playing your part, you help keep everyone visiting the Guildhall safe. You won't be wasting anyone's time.
