City Corporation statement on UK-Japan FTA announcement

The UK’s Department for International Trade has today announced that it has reached a free trade agreement with Japan. Reacting to the news, City of London Corporation Policy Chair Catherine McGuinness said:

“We welcome the announcement of the UK-Japan FTA and I’m particularly pleased to see financial services and data provision at its heart.

“We already enjoy an excellent business relationship with Japan, and this agreement will provide a solid platform for us to deepen regulatory ties, creating jobs and prosperity in both countries.

“Looking at other trading partners, it is now high time to forge a positive future trading relationship with the EU, where we must show significantly more ambition for financial services.

“In doing so, we’ll benefit households and businesses on both sides of the Channel.”
