City Corporation calls on firms to bring employees safely back to the Square Mile

Policy Chair of the City of London Corporation Catherine McGuinness has today urged businesses to start bringing their staff back to the workplace in a safe and responsible manner.

Speaking at the Court of Common Council, the City Corporation’s top decision-making body, Miss McGuinness said that any return for City workers should follow Government guidance.

She said that the City Corporation had already led by example by having staff work throughout the pandemic and beginning to bring employees back.

She told the Court:

“We know that the workforce in the Square Mile is not returning in great numbers.

“We will be calling on firms to return their staff to the workplace but only if it safe to do so.

“We have already led by example in supporting our City. Now we will work with our partners to show that the City of London still has a compelling and competitive offer to businesses across the world.”

Miss McGuinness told elected Members that London’s overall attractiveness as a top investment destination has remained “undiminished”, with the first major poll of global investors since the start of the COVID-19 crisis showing that 99% are still keen to invest in the city.
