City Academy Islington celebrates excellent GCSE results

Outstanding examination success was celebrated at the City of London Academy Islington today following another year of excellent GCSE examinations results.

91% of students achieved the equivalent of A*-C in English; 67% of students achieved 5 A*-C passes including English and Mathematics; and 18% of all grades are A* / A grades.

Clare Verga, Principal at the City of London Academy Islington, said:

"I am delighted for all students receiving their results today and am grateful to all involved in securing these successes".

Henry Colthurst, Chairman of the Education Board at The City of London Corporation said:

"We are very proud of how hard our students have worked, and we are delighted that this hard work has translated into tangible results which will enable them to pursue the further education and employment training opportunities of their choice".

Eamon Martin, Vice Chairman and a City, University of London sponsor governor said:

"We are absolutely thrilled for our students - whose hard work has clearly paid off with an excellent set of results. I know that the Academy staff are tireless in their commitment towards our students.

They too can take great credit for these results."

The City Corporation, which is already ranked as the top multi-academy sponsor in the country for pupil progress by the Department for Education, sponsors or co-sponsors two primary and three secondary academies across Hackney, Islington and Southwark. All are judged as 'Good' or 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.

The City of London Corporation is opening five new academies in Islington, Hackney and Newham. The progress eight scores show that the City Corporation's Hackney and Islington academies are in the top 15 schools out of 6,300 in the country for student progress.
