Brand new sixth-form centre to open in 2017

Additional places and improved facilities for young people

A new state-of-the-art sixth form centre will open in September 2017 providing first-class facilities for City of London Academy, Southwark students.

The new building will accommodate 400 students and will be located on the corner of Rotherhithe New Road and Verney Road, a short distance from the main school site.

The design process has had significant input from current academy pupils, with students involved in the first floor plan layouts and interior design features like furniture style, interior colour themes and classroom design. The new build will include glass walls, a large open plan study centre and flexible learning spaces for both staff and students based on a more contemporary theme.

Abigail Blessing, Head of Sixth form at The City of London Academy Southwark said:

“A first class learning environment has a huge positive impact upon students’ education, motivation and aspirations.

“The opening of our new sixth form centre will enrich our students and inspire them to reach their full academic potential.”

Catherine McGuinness, Chair of the City of London Academies Trust said:

“The City of London Academy Southwark is one of the best performing schools in the borough with 71% of students securing A*- C at A-level.

“We are committed to providing a high quality learning environment for our students and look forward to welcoming the next class of students to their new sixth form in 2017.”

The City of London Corporation, which sponsors the academy, is committed to providing access to excellent education and learning opportunities for children and young people.
